Cute pieces in an unlikely place (pt. 2)

In my earlier post, I told you ladies about how I found some amazing pieces at Talbots, a store I had never shopped. These SUPER comfy green joggers were one of the items I walked out with that day! I've never worn joggers- I always felt like they looked strange on me or didn't hit me in the right places to look cute. These were perfect- soft, slim, and higher in the waist! *They do run a bit big, so I sized down one size*

Another brand I have never tried is Lily Pulitzer. I love color and prints, but their usual combo of the two just isn't my style. (And that's ok-  its what makes the world go round!) BUT...when I saw this top while randomly browsing their site, I knew I had to try it! I actually had to get on a wait list, and it shipped to me this week! The pom pom details are really trendy right now, and you know I love any off the shoulder look ;) The top is sold out again on lilypulitzer.com, but I found it on Zappos! You're welcome. :D

Dress up your joggers with a great pair of heels! I chose this chunky Dolce Vita suede pair with fringe. They're currently on sale at 6pm.com for $59.99 (from $130!)  6pm.com is an amazing site for  finding deals on those cute shoes/boots you've been eyeing for weeks at a more expensive retailer. Fast shipping, too!

I kept accessories simple with these gold hammered metal earrings from H&M. Big earrings are really trending right now, and you can find tons of styles at H&M or websites like Baublebar.

So lesson learned- if you are unsure about a store or brand, check them out anyway. You never know what you may find and may be pleasantly surprised!

Cute pieces in an unlikely place (pt. 1)

pullover  // earrings // pendant necklace // shorts // wedges
We all have our 'usual' stores we shop, right? My 'usual' are places like Nordstrom, Target, H&M, etc. Sometimes I will judge a store by their typical customer base, thinking it would never be my style.
Tuesday night, I was proven wrong.
I am a member of a community organization in my town, and we were having a fundraiser at the local Talbots. I have never been into a Talbots (ok, maybe once) but felt I should show my face for support. After walking around a bit, I was so surprised at some of the cute and trendy items they had! I walked out of there with two clothing items and two jewelry pieces. Definitely one of my new 'don't knock it till you try it' stores! Not only did they have cute clothes, but they were having a 30% off sale on certain tops and jewelry. Can't beat that!
I paired this super cute vibrant yellow pullover sweater from Talbots with some distressed cut offs from Target. The sweater is a great color for spring/early summer and light enough to wear on cooler mornings (I'm thinking walks on the beach!) The shorts are great because they are mid-rise and SO comfortable. Target has the best selection of cute shorts!
I found some amazing petal earrings at Talbots also, in the same yellow color. They dress up my otherwise casual outfit and make it look at bit more put-together.
If you want your legs to appear longer, ALWAYS add wedges with shorts. They give you lift and will make you feel more confidant strutting your stuff in your cut offs! This particular pair is currently on sale at Belk. They're easy to walk in and comfy enough for several hours on your feet!
Stay tuned for part 2 of my Talbots discovery, coming soon!

Casual summer date night

Jeans // Jack Rogers jellies  (currently 40% off!) // hat from New Orleans hat shop, similar here // earrings (currently 30% off!) // clutch // Banana Republic top- sold out at the moment, but similar BR top here! //
Recently my family traveled to Columbia, Mississippi for a long weekend to visit extended family. Columbia is a charming small town in the southern part of the state, about 1.5 hours from New Orleans, LA. My husband and I took advantage of the grandparents' offer to babysit, and went on a date night in nearby Hattiesburg! Before dinner, we stopped at this gorgeous courthouse on Main St in Columbia for a photo op :)
I kept the outfit comfy and laid-back with my favorite jeans from Citizens of Humanity. If you haven't tried these- they are worth the higher price tag! They will last FOREVER! Seriously the softest, most comfortable skinnies I own. (And a higher rise, too! Bonus!)
Off the shoulder tops are the major trend this summer season, and I chose this Banana Republic top because its linen and has a more casual feel. I honestly have an off the shoulder addiction- I'm sure you will see more in future posts! Its a great way to be a little 'sexy' without showing much skin. I'm a mom and way past the age of showing cleavage (LOL), so this is a nice modest alternative. This particular top just recently sold out :( but I linked a similar one above.
Speaking of trends, I went with two more for my accessories. You can NEVER go wrong with a good pair of tassel earrings (I have several) and a classic straw fedora! I linked one of my favorite fedoras from Nordstrom because mine was purchased last year at a hat shop. (Great for when your hair just isn't on point today, also! Haha!)
I have never owned a pair of Jack Rogers sandals, but have always heard so many rave reviews on their style and comfort. I finally sprung for these jellies because it was a total throwback to my 90's childhood (oh yea, and they were 40% off!) I am now on the #lovemyjacks train, because these beauties are SO comfortable! Can't wait to wear them at the beach this summer!
Add a simple clutch, and you're ready to go! Enjoy your sweet night out with your main squeeze! Sit on a patio and have a glass of chilled wine for me!
